Professional wrestling illustration

I’m proud to share this latest piece of my artwork. It’s intended to be cover art for a personal project I’ve been working on for a year or more, a board game about professional wrestling. I thought I’d have a go at producing art with a retro, old print feel to it, and played around in Procreate to attain this. 

The characters here represent what I thought was a fair cross-section of participants in the US wrestling scene of the late 80s, which I would watch every chance I got. Sharp-eyed fans will spot references in the illustration to Nature Boy Ric Flair, Sting, Ted DiBiase and Randy Savage.

The illustration went through several iterations on paper before I scanned the pencils in and set about it in Procreate on the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil. (A new Pencil at that as I dropped last one on its nib. I do not recommend doing that.) See more of my illustration work here.
